What Is Medicare Advantage Insurance Coverage?
Medicare Advantage plans are policies offered by private health insurance companies that must follow rules set by Medicare, covering the benefits of Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance).
Using an Advantage plan (referred to as Medicare Part C) helps close gaps presented by the first two parts of Medicare, while keeping your costs lower than a traditional plan. Advantage plans will typically include prescription drug coverage. Others also include vision, dental and hearing benefits.
Through our wide network of carriers, we can help you design different plans and directly compare your costs and benefits so that you only pay for what you need.
It is important to note that an Advantage plan is not the same as Medicare supplement coverage – like Plans G or F for instance. These two insurance options are very different and by rule, you cannot have both. It’s one or the other. We work with both types.
What Are The Costs Associated With MA Coverage?
While Advantage plans can cover a lot, you may still have some out-of-pocket costs. Understanding those expenses (including copays, coinsurance, deductibles and more) before enrolling in a plan is important.
The good news is almost all Advantage plans offer discounts if you use pre-approved networks of healthcare providers. But if you need to go outside that network, your costs could increase.
It is also extremely important you check if your primary care physician accepts the Advantage plan before you enroll.
Additional Benefits Offered By Some Advantage Plans
The advantage of an Advantage plan is that it goes beyond what you can get with the original forms of Medicare. Prescription drugs, dental, vision, hearing and even free gym memberships or similar fitness programs. Some also offer rides to doctor appointments, meal delivery and telehealth as well.
